My goal for joining Surf Sirens was to gain confidence and skill while surfing in my kayak. What I gained was so much more! This group of ladies is inclusive and will adapt their lessons to help meet the participants’ goals according to their skill and confidence level. I came with a long boat and ended up falling in love with surfing in a sit-on-top kayak! 2022 was my second year with Surf Sirens and I will be back for many more. Thank you to the coaches and participants for making me feel welcome. Being a Canadian, it was easy to sign up and communicate with the organizers; it’s a quick drive from the ferry in Port Angeles and Hobuck Campground has it all, whether you want to tent camp or rent a cabin. I’m so grateful to these wonderful women for opening up more opportunities for females in the world of surf kayaking.

I first learned about Surf Sirens a few years ago, and in September 2022 I was able to join in my first Surf Sirens weekend at Hobuck Beach. What a lot of fun! A wonderful paddle with a lovely group of women on the Friday, then Saturday brought a day of learning, improvement and play in the surf, with opportunities for both newbies and not-so-newbies, and in a variety of kayaks, from short boats to full on sea kayaks. And then there was more on Sunday!
I'd encourage anyone who's thinking about spending a weekend with like-minded women, and a group of excellent coaches ... do it!
